The Heart of Our Mission
People who are meant to make impactful change often say they knew from childhood. I knew.
From an early age, I felt called to serve my community and humanity in some way. I wasn’t sure what that would look like. I imagined I might one day serve in public office, open an orphanage, or perhaps do both.

I spent my early years in Haiti. I was fortunate to experience the beauty, strength, and culture the country has to offer, but I also saw that not everyone was given the same opportunities. The need for help stayed with me.

I come from a family deeply rooted in service. My father was involved in politics, and my mother served our community by feeding families through our church, practicing journalism, and advocating for women’s rights through her foundation.

Although I descend from a line of strong women, I especially honor my maternal grandmother. She could neither read nor write. She arrived in the United States without knowing the language, yet she built a life of resilience and dignity that continues to inspire me. With an education, she would have been unstoppable.

One of my favorite proverbs is, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” I feel I have been given so much: time, kindness, and mentorship throughout my life. From my kindergarten teacher, Ms. Nancy, when I was four, to the woman at the grocery store when I was eight; from my neighbor at eleven, to mentors and teachers who guided me through school and adulthood; from family members who believed in me, to the remarkable women I have met in the Forbes Women community and beyond. Each of them shaped who I am today.

This foundation is my way of paying it forward. It is an ode to those who poured into my life. It is their legacy, and it will be my legacy as well.
